Location
We scouted out locations for the filming of our opening we looked around the local area for a good place to film the mugging scene, we found the tunnel as a very good location because not many people walked through there so we didn't have to stop people from walking through the shot.
We also looked for a good location for the house scene we eventually found one that fitted with the story line because it was a small area for the filming witch made the shot looked cramped.

Rome analysis
The TV series Rome opens with the roman soldiers In formation ready to fight the barbarian horde the guals, The battle ends in victory for the Romans But Titas has disobeyed orders and is suffering punishment which is then followed by the surrendering of the guals to Caesar.
Rank is represented in many different ways in the opening of Rome such as Cinematography, Editing, Sound and Mise-en-scene , Rank is represented in cinematography with a serious of close ups of the main commander and titas who is amongst the ranks of solders, During the battle there is a close up of the commander of the roman forces to show he is important to the programme, There is a birds eye shot that shows the roman forces fighting power + organization to their opponents’ the guals, it shows how the roman army is more superior and better disciplined Than the guals who have no order and no discipline This shows the ranks between the two fighting sides, There is a high angle shots and low angle shots with Caesar and the Gaul Chieftain shows there is a lot of difference between their status and rank, The high angle shot makes Caesar look very powerful with high status than the Gaul chieftain who is made to kneel like he has no power at all, He is stripped of his clothing and armour which also status that his rank and status are being stripped away from him in a few seconds, Also the long shot of the roman fortification because of the large stone buildings it states that the roman have the higher status than anyone else, When the camera pans across the roman army waiting for battle it shows the commanders compared to the rest of the troops he is standing right at the front and in the middle of the shot which states to the audience he has the highest rank out of all the Romans there, But when It shows the scene of Caesar on his platform above anyone this show he is the supreme commander of all the roman empire.
Rank is also represented in the Mise-on scene; the helmets in the roman army show the ranks between the soldiers like in the army today. The commanding general helmet is different to the foot soldiers because of the red frill, these shows to the rest of the solders and the audience that he is important to he is important and that he is in charge of the army as a whole. Also Caesar crown shows his Rank/Status in the Roman Empire, That he controls all those loyal to the empire without question This is the same with his robes that he is wearing it is usually the most expensive than anyone around him in the scene which shows he has the highest rank possible. Caesar Standard also shows the status of the roman empire because it is What is used when the Gaul chieftain kisses it in loyalty to Caesar which states the surrendering of the Guals and it acts as if it strips away the rank and status of all the Guals and will just disappear into the empire with no status at all. Also when Caesar is sitting upon his platform addressing the chieftain he does not get up or say anything to his enemy unlike the army today who have to show the commanding officer of any force with respect, Which shows that Caesar thinks that his Rank and status are much higher than his is so he does not show any respect at all, The banners also show the power and status of the Romans to strike fear into their enemies.
The colours used by the Romans, Red this shows that they are ready to fight and that they have killed men before to get where they are today with their rank and status, The gold shows the wealth of the empire and shows it states to the other nations they are the best.
The sound used in the opening by the commanding officer shows how he is looked up to by the lower becouse he is making comands and no one is talking or shouting, only by the barbarians plus the whistle is used to command the troops which shows rank becouise he is the only one blowing it which is controling all that they do. Also the middle scene with the lashes of the whip which shows every time the whip strikes his back it is stripping away his status as well as his skin, the battle cries towarsds cesar showing his status as the supreme commander even to the comander at the beginnig who also has rank and status. and when the commander in the middle scene when he is telling the other soilders about titas trechery, he is talking and no one is making a noise and everyone is listing to what he is saying which shows use he has rank and status to everyone there.
With the editing there are a few shot reverse shots but one of the main ones was of ceaser and the barbarian chiefton, when he was kneeling down it shows that he has know lost all his power/ rank and status in less than a moment.

Rush Hour 3 opening
The Film opens to a wide angle shot tilting up from the city to show the scene better,
it has the producer names rolling over the top for about 10 seconds than it jump cuts closer to the buildings in the background than it jumps again closer but zooms in on two more specific buildings with more text (A Brett Ratner Film) and tilts in between the buildings than cuts two a completely different scene of a highway and the text put across is of the two main actors starring in the film Jackie Chan and Chris tucker, The text used on the opening 30 seconds is a bold text that is usually used In action films so the person watching may assume it is an high adrenalin pumping film. But also the music used in the 30 seconds is medium pace it can be linked to spy films and others genre so the person
watching will link the action writing and music and know what the genre is at the beginning.
When it is filming the highway it show how the next scene links to the traffic built up on the highway
but as it zooms in closer to the highway the main title come up in red lettering Rush hour 3 the red can
symbolise the violence that is to later appear in the film.
After the Rush hour logo slowly fades out there is a high angle shot of a street jam packed
With cars and as It tilts down it give a birds eye view of the cause of the problem the one of the main characters dancing listing to an iPod and Directing traffic. But as It is playing and the cars are going passed him the editor have put the names on the cars so the go along with the cars to make it look a lot better. This scene also set the genre for the whole film because it adds a level of comical effect to the film so it has 3 genres in it action crime and comedy this is all seen in the opening with the text the character body language and for the crime he is dressed as a policeman so it is automatically assumed.
There are a number of camera angles used in the next 30 seconds on the main character
A range of close ups are used to show his facial expressions as he is sing to engage the
audience with a comical side, than the camera jumps behind the main character and is a medium
shot because he is dancing show it shows what he is doing at this moment but the camera also jump
cuts to the left of him and is a close up of his face every time it cuts to the left it is a close
up and every it cuts to the back it is medium shot and when it comes to the front again it is long shot
to show a in a wide range what he is doing to help the audience.
After the long shot it jumps cuts to 2 cars colliding it than jumps back to the main characters
close up to show his reaction and show more comical work when he takes of his headphones and his
facial expressions. The producer adds a very good comical effect by making the main character blame
his surroundings than himself, before it moves onto the spy action genre part of the film witch follows
and it alternates quite frequently between the genres and even integration them in a scene.
What also shows of the genres of the films is the costumes such as the police uniform and the
bodyguard suits and also the facial expressions and body language.
The setting shows where it is set (Los angles) and many of the props such as the cars,
iPods and mobile phone to show it is up to date on the times.
The sound that opens with a spy themed music song witch is non- Diegetic because it does not
come from a source on screen but his music helps the audience help link to the genre of the film.
This music is supposed to add suspense of the film.
There is also diegetic sound used in the opening there are a lot of car horns surrounding the traffic
to emphasize how chaotic the scene is from what the main character is doing.
Also there is music playing from an iPod that can be faintly herd and the main character is singing to it, It is also diegetic because it is coming fro the iPod and he is singing. This is portrayed by the director
to put forward the comical fun side of the film along side the spy action this music adds irony to the main character because the song is about loving someone and he has had know one over the films.
From the opening it show where the film at the beginning is being set Los angels
The costumes plays an important role in the genre of the film at the beginning the police uniforms and secret service uniforms defiantly show.
There are not many props in the opening just hundreds of the cars to show the area he is in is busies and that it is a crowded street and show
what type of police man carter is.
The lighting in this scene is mostly natural light to show that the time of day is late morning maybe afternoon this also leads to the amount
of cars on the road underlining the title rush hour. The colours of the uniforms in the scene are a dark blue/black which shows authority and power from the police uniform and also the secrecy in the
bodyguards. The positioning of the main character Carter is right in the centre of the all the camera shots and is the first person in the shots witch Emphasises
he is one of the main characters because he is the first one two talk as well. Plus you can people in the cars but they are blurred out around him so your attention is focused on carter making him seem the most important person at this time.
There are only a few different types of editing used in the opening what is mostly used is jump cuts between
the shots which make the transaction smooth because it goes from a medium to a close in the cut.
There are no match on actions because there are no lines of dialogue between to people in the opening.
I looked at this opening to see how they incorperated the titles over the film also it is a smilliar genre to our film a crime thrillar.
